![]() ![]() so you have to show your mast to enemy ships or risk hitting a mine with its width that is as large as 2 other subs together.ĭue to the lack of defensive AA and lack of heavy turrets like the other subs she is unable fend off destroyers. she struggles to kill ships if you only attack from range due to her longer than average reload for lower damage torps (25s for 60k vs declarations 20s reload for 80k) A relatively less known issue is that due to its size and tall mast it is unable to stay fully underwater and avoid mines. She is larger than most cruisers and has a relatively low HP pool for her size of only 120k, which makes the sub quite easy to one-shot when it attempts to attack a broadside battleship. Despite being able to go 20 knots she is not a slim and small sub. However nothing is without a cost as Red also suffers a few harsh drawbacks. Revolution and Regashi require a HP flag to live the attack. She also like Declaration has 圆 anti ship missiles that work well for taking out low HP ships and bring Red's total instant burst damage to a whopping 540k which means it can one hit almost any ship besides Bulwark. unlike Verlust Red October doesn't have to spend 5s shooting all of its torps. Red October has the most torpedoes of any sub (x8 lower damage torps with a wider spread) that total up to 480k of instant burst damage. She has always had a reputation of being the hardest hitter in the game and she still retains that title in a few ways. I don't know where you are from - so I don't know if you can get Halfords car sprays wher you are?īut they make building and painting modern submarines very easy.Red October was the first Premium vessel in the Submarine branch of the Tech Tree.Ĭommonly referred to as "Red" or "Oct" by most of the players. Once the masking was removed, I had a nice thin white waterline mark above the red hull line.Īfter applying the decals, I give it a final coat of satin varnish - again from a spray can. Once they were fixed I sprayed it White Primer for the stripe around the waterline - then I masked this off with very narrow masking tape, then sprayed the Red, then the Dark Grey. When I did my Typhoon, I sprayed it with Grey Primer - to make sure all the joins were OK. I use car sprays for my submarines - 'rattle cans' of Halfords acrylic spray paints.įor the lower hull I use Halfords Red Plastic Primer - and for the top surface I use things like Volvo Dark Grey (almost black) - or Vauxhall Tempest Grey (a bit lighter). Tamiya sprays should be OK AICZ, but I wouldn't use black - I think it is too stark - very dark grey is better in this scale In close time i must give both subs a color coat. But i must say - Whooa a Typhoon is really a Leviathan ! Greenville - uhhh Dallas - looks with compare with him as rhino near blue whale ! I'am happy i have finally have a my own "Red October" submarine !Ĭan you help me with add pictures to forum, please ? I'm not boomers expert - but both kits look good and i'ts build is really fun. I make it not as real USS Greenville but as movie USS Dallas. And i found in my stack Los Angeles class (668i) (USS Greeneville SSN-772) with ASDS midget submarine (and in Clancy's famous novel - and movie have a midget sub a important role). I make all hatches (missiles silos and navigating bridge) closed, with retract periscopes and sensor cones. I seen my favorite movie with sir Connery and Alec Baldwin and for two and half hours i have a structural work completed. I go to day in my local shop and my question is simple: "Have you a new "Red October" from Hobby Boss ? (Yes, i know, movie Red October have an caterpillar propulsion system and huge sensor bulge on upper stabilisator). ![]() Mikro-Mir is another hard to find brand for enthuiast and Flankerman's Typhoon build from HB here on BM looks really good. Recently released was two Typhoon class kits - a Typhoon from Chinese Hobby Boss and Russian Mikro-Mir. Only available Typhoon class in my favorite scale 1/350 was obsolete DML kit (from Cold War era) and Russian hard to find Alanger kit. Finally ! After one year i made another kit (Yup, i bought 20 - 30 kits for year and build one or two or three -when i have a good year.) I love a brilliant Tom Clancy's techno thriller "Hunt for Red October" and i can a twenty years build a Typhoon class submarine. ![]()
