![]() March is a month of madness in our house every year. ![]() I wanted to be like these women! Leaders, movers and shakers right here in South Florida! And the wheels in my brain started moving and turning overtime. On Friday, March 8th, 2019, I walked up the hill to Broward Center for The Performing Arts to attend a women’s empowerment conference – Excuse Me, That’s My Seat! By sundown, my purpose had changed. So I took on the challenge to ensure this DMA had a gazillion and ONE marketing agencies now! That comfortable salary just wasn’t enough motivation – I wanted more! I wanted something I can leave to my children and a name that everyone in South Florida knew. I wasn’t willing to give them more and saw an opportunity for me to fly on my own. On the 91st day, my manager called and we had a long talk about effort and expectations. By the end of January, I knew what I had to do but I was scared to take the first step – I mean, there’s only a gazillion marketing agencies here in the tri-county area! I spent my Christmas break researching and learning what it would take to start a boutique agency here locally. I committed to giving it a shot for 90 days but honestly, my heart was not into it. If I was going to make a life-long career in the digital advertising space, I had to commit to being a student of the trade until the day I retired.įast forward to the end of 2018, the company I worked for and loved for many years was bought by another giant digital marketing agency and our culture was changing. The journey from there has been anything but smooth! The ups, the downs, the constantly changing market, new product, new solutions, software and never-ending certifications. I was 33 and saw what this new “internet stuff” could do! On the other hand, the world around me was changing and I started to see missed opportunities and lost income and that is what sparked the fire in me. Within a few months, I was introduced to the digital advertising space and as a creature of habit, I naturally resisted and I put up a fight. ![]() I was 32 and it made a pretty damn good living! Ugh! The only reason I didn’t quit is money. ![]() I mean, I’m happiest amongst puppies and kittens and children and here I was, little old me dropped in the middle of a pack of wolves. In 2012 I was hired to sell print advertising to local car dealerships here in South Florida – the toughest and roughest prospects EVER! I had to learn to adapt to my hardcore environment and that was a major struggle for me. I wasn’t the best at it but I LOVED people and in essence, most of them loved working with me so that was always my secret to success. My advertising and marketing journey started back in 2008. Mom and Dad raised me to speak up and stand up for myself in this world and my brother was always the victim of my endless chatter in our early childhood. I grew up in Trinidad and Tobago in the ’80s in a time when women still didn’t have equal opportunities as men. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.Ĭhatterbox Of South Florida was born out of my love for chatting! I’ve always been a chatterbox. Today we’d like to introduce you to Marisa Persad-Dibble. ![]()
